There is a few ways your Mirror is replaced

Snap or Drop fit Style were the mirror glass is bonded to a plastic inter-platform or backing plate that is mounted inside the mirror head. And Gasket or Snap ring Style were the mirror glass is mounted directly into the mirror head and retained by adhesive and a plastic cap ring or gasket ( West Coast truck style Mirrors ) .

The Snap or Drop fit Style mirror installations:

The simple method is to use the self-adhiseve pads and place mirror over existing/broken mirror.Dry fit mirror first to make sure the mirror doesn't stick out to far of the mirror head and the fit around the mirror head  is correct.

Another method is to remove all existing glass from the backing plate,clean the backing plate surface with alcohol,apply self-adhesive pads to mirror place the mirror onto the backing plate.You can also use silicone to glue the Mirror. If silicone  is being used, clamp the replacement mirror to the backing plate with masking tape

The Snap ring Style mirror installations:

First dry fit replacement  mirror part to determine whether it is designed to be mounted inside or underneath the cap ring.If the replacement mirror was designed to fit inside the ring, bond the replacement mirror over the existing mirror using the self adhesive pads or silicone.

If the replacement mirror was designed to fit under the cap ring,then break out the old mirror (The mirror head should be covered with a cloth to protect against flying ) Separate the cap ring from the mirror head, being careful not to damage the ring. Apply  silicone to the mirror head and install the replacement mirror. Apply urethane or silicone to the cap ring and clamp the assembly

Safety glasses and glass handling gloves are strongly recommended for all glass and mirror installations.
